Day 1 and 2

Hello! 

The first day consisted of messy hair, bags that wouldn’t close and sore thumbs caused by just holding an ice cream. Today, we left for Scotland (finally!). My father brought us to IJmuiden harbour. This all went smoothly (despite having left home too late - no surprise there) and we arrived in IJmuiden at around 16h15.

We got on the boat soon after and quickly found our cabin. Even though it was small, it was nice to have a cabin in which you can retreat. After exploring the boat for a bit (which was much like a maze and we got lost more than once), we went back to the cabin and had dinner (we had prepared dinner at home because we are poor students that cannot afford food on the boat, after all, that’s crazy expensive). We played Frank’s Zoo for a bit and after that we went outside to look at the sunset. Elise had brought her camera along so we took a lot of pictures (and not even a quarter of them were half decent because of my face). When we were finished taking pictures of us and the sea, we went to get an ice cream in a café. Because of the hard wind, it was hard to hold it still which resulted in sore thumbs and hair in your ice cream (and ice cream in your hair, too). We decided to go back to the cabin and get ready for bed, as we did not want to go to sleep too late, we have a long week to go after all. 

We all slept quite well despite the sound of the motors and the many waves. The next morning, we went outside to enjoy the view one last time. We got through border control smoothly and we were on the bus transfer to Newcastle centre quite quickly. Soon we found our train and we were ready to go (finally on Scottish soil!). We had to change trains once at Carlisle but all went well (surprisingly as I'm really bad with trains). 

We were picked up by the owner of the campsite, Pam Hazlehurst, and we went to the shops to pick up some food. Mike, one of the owners who lives on the property, showed us around (it is really big here). We also met Steve, the handyman and had a look inside the different houses.

Tomorrow we will start painting, our first day of work!
