Day 3
14 juli 2017 - Marthrown of Mabie, Verenigd Koninkrijk
Hello!
Today was our first ‘real’ day of our internship. We have pretty much been working the whole day. Our day started at nine when we were instructed by Steve, the handyman. We have to renovate a bedroom, a small bathroom and a toilet (Bunkhouse Annan). The paint was all flaking so we should fix that first by scraping off the excess paint. This took a while because you can basically continue doing that forever – once you start, there’s always a new flaky bit. The bathroom and toilet were cleaned first because it had a different paint. I was assigned to the bedroom (the biggest room) with Arita. We could start painting quite quickly. Too bad we had to paint it in the same colour, yellow, which is not that nice for an entire room (yes, even the ceiling). We had our morning snack with Steve which was nice, as we got to know him a bit better. We have been painting the whole afternoon with Steve and Pam checking in on us every so often. Somehow, we found what we were doing super hilarious and Pam and Steve must have thought we weren’t doing anything. At the end of the day, we had almost finished painting all rooms which was not at all what they had expected of us – they thought we would be busy painting the bunkhouse all week. That evening, we played games in the shared dining room with many Scots walking in on us. There was a stack party on the campsite so it was quite busy. Some had a very heavy accent, so sometimes it was hard to understand what was being said. However, the main message was mostly that the Netherlands is great.
Well, that was it for today. Sorry about the irregular posting, the WiFi connection is not all that great….
See you tomorrow!
