Day 5

16 juli 2017 - Marthrown of Mabie, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hello!

Today we went on a sightseeing tour with Pam which was lovely. We started in New Abbey to see the Sweetheart Abbey, which is a beautiful place with a story: there was a woman, Lady Devorgillor, whose husband passed away and carried his heart around until she died, too. They were buried together on the site of the Sweetheart Abbey. We then went to a the John Paul Jones cottage, but stopped on the way to take pictures at Drumburn Viewpoint. The John Paul Jones cottage is a small museum next to the cottage Jones was born in, which you can also visit. We watched a movie about his life. He was the father of the American Navy and he played a very important role in the American Revolution. He is known for the quote: “I have not yet begun to fight”. After that, we went to Powill mount, which is a beach with many rocks which we climbed. We had a look around and then went on to the Southerness Lighthouse. We climbed it and the view from there was stunning. This was a short stop, and there we got to Sandy Hills Bay where we all got an ice cream, because the weather was so lovely. We then went to another beach at Rockcliffe which was crowded with dogs which I thought was really really nice. Our last stop was at Kippfort, which is a real fisher’s village with a lot of boats.

We finished the day in the Steamboat Inn for dinner. I had fish and chips, because you have to have that when you are in the UK, right? We went to do some groceries and soon went home.

Tomorrow we will be working again, but this time in the Roundhouse.

See you tomorrow!
